Join us on Monday, April 27th for a discussion of the nuances that non-profit board members and directors should understand.  Rick and Lori will review the fundamentals of non-profit organizations, understanding the major financial statements and ratios, managing legal and financial liability, UBIT, and the IRS Form 990.

Our presenters for the evening will be Lori Ashline, JD and Rick Arrowood, JD.

Lori Ashline, JD has spent 25 years raising charitable gifts from individuals for nonprofits ranging from small social services agencies to higher education institutions. Her area of specialty is charitable estate and financial planned giving.  Lori has taught fundraising, legal and governance issues to graduate students in the Nonprofit Management program at Northeastern University since 2009 and transitioned to full-time Assistant Teaching Professor in 2016.  Her current research interests focus on donor-advised funds. 

Rick Arrowood, J.D., is an experienced international educator with more than two decades of graduate and undergraduate teaching and three decades of high-level leadership positions in nonprofit organizations. Arrowood is a Professor in Nonprofit Management and Leadership at Merrimack College, North Andover and serves as the Director of Curriculum and Program Development. He has given keynote speeches and presented on various subjects of nonprofit management and leadership in the USA, Australia, China, Russia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Malaysia, and the Netherlands (The Hague). His academic areas include nonprofit management, global leadership, human resource management, and financial management. He holds several professional certifications in cultural competency, intercultural effectiveness, and leadership practices. He anticipates completing his second doctorate degree in Law and Policy at Northeastern University.

Previously, Arrowood was recognized by former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, who credited him as a change agent in leading a grassroots effort to attain a legislative mandate providing the first-ever, pioneering statewide registry for individuals living with Lou Gehrig’s disease, a registry that is overseen by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Bureau of Environmental Division, and is replicated nationwide.
